Rick Ware Racing Wins GOLD at 2012 X-Games

Heading into the 2012 X-Games, expectations were high for a repeat gold medal in the Womens Motocross Finale. As the race day drew on it became more obvious that Vicki Golden, 2 time X-Games Gold Medalist, would be a force to be reckoned with heading into the feature race. Vicki would practice 2nd in warmups, win her heat and get preferred lineup for the feature on the inside. But without a great start, all of that would be for nothing. As the gate dropped on the Women's Motocross Finale the desire for Vicki to win gold was obvious as she got the ultimate hole shot going into turn one and never looked back. Vicki would go on to win the Women's Motocross Gold by a dominating 8 seconds over second place to claim her second gold medal in the last 2 years!

Vicki Golden

“I wanted this race more than anything right now. The pressure was definitely high but I thrive on that pressure. Obviously we had a fast bike and I was super comfortable on the track but everything still had to go right. We got an amazing start and with the hole shot I was able to drive away and enjoy the ride!!!!”, explained 2 Time X-Games gold medal winner Vicki Golden.

Rick Ware Racing

“Vicki Golden is an amazing rider and a fierce competitor. We couldn't be more proud to support Vicki and her X-Games competition. Being involved with NASCAR is awesome but there is something cool and special about the X-Games. Having Rick Ware Racing and Poynt.com on the bike meant a lot and I hope that we can be involved with Vicki again in the very near future!”, explained NASCAR Team Owner Rick Ware.

New Pavement at Michigan Speedway a Unique Challenge

With an off weekend behind them, the Rick Ware Racing Team and Poynt.com head to Michigan Speedway for more intense NASCAR Nationwide Action. The team will roll out the 41 Poynt.com car for the first NASCAR race on the new repaved track surface with practice beginning on Friday. During the off season Michigan Speedway underwent a major facelift with a full track repave. Speeds are expected to reach over 215 mph heading into the wide sweeping corners and grip will be at an all time high.

The Car

The #41 Poynt.com team will roll out the same car that ran consistent top 5 speeds at Charlotte Speedway a few short weeks ago. This car is specifically designed for high downforce race tracks where speeds are excessive and grip is needed to keep cars stuck to the track. George Church, crew chief for the 41 car has his work cut out for him heading into a track with new pavement and very little time on the track. “It is always tricky when you head to a place that just went through a repave. Not sure if our notes from the past will carry over or if we will have to make significant changes to our baseline setup. What I do know is that it will be really smooth and really fast”, explained crew chief George Church.

Timmy Hill

As with the setup of the car, the driving of Michigan Speedway with new pavement is an unknown as well. “Michigan had a bunch of different grooves and levels of banking. It was also pretty bumpy which was fun and it wore the tires out pretty quickly. I am not sure if you will see any of that this first year back on fresh pavement. The bumps will probably be gone and the groove will be much narrower. I am really looking forward to those first few laps to see what happens and how the track feels.”, stated Timmy Hill.

ESPN's live telecast of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Saturday, June 2, earned a 1.2 household coverage rating (1.1 U.S. rating), averaging 1,455,858 viewers, according to the Nielsen Company. The rating was down from a 1.7 for last year's race, which also aired on ESPN but was run earlier in the year on May 14. Of the 12 NASCAR Nationwide Series races that have aired across ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC this season, the Dover race was only the third to see a ratings/viewership decline from last year.(ESPN)(6-6-2012)
